CHALLENGE:

North Tipperary County Council awarded the Design Build Operate contract for a new wastewater treatment works at Templemore to the joint venture partnership of Response Engineering and Ward & Burke Ltd. Ward & Burke were the contractors for the civil works and Response Engineering were responsible for all mechanical and electrical works.

Response Engineering were also appointed as service provider for a twenty year operation and maintenance contract. The design population equivalent for the plant was 6,000.

ANSWER:

Response Engineering designed, procured and installed all process plant for the works which includes a dual stream inlet works consisting of automatic screens, screenings washing and compaction and vortex type grit removal system. Secondary treatment is effected by extended aeration in twin STM aeration tanks each equipped with two aerators to give treatment flexibility for fluctuating plant loading. Two final clarifiers with half-bridge scrapers are provided.

Phosphorous reduction is achieved by ferric dosing and simultaneous precipitation. Sludge is thickened and dewatered by centrifuge to 20% DS.

PROCESS SUMMARY:
  • Stormwater retention
  • Inlet screening/screenings compaction
  • Grit removal
  • STM aeration
  • P-reduction
  • Final settlement
  • Sludge pumping, thickening & dewatering
  • ICA/SCADA
